D.C. Council Committee Unanimously Recommends Expulsion of Trayon White Over $150,000 Bribery Charge
Dec 16, 2024, 02:06 PM
The D.C. Council ad hoc committee, tasked with investigating federal bribery allegations against Councilmember Trayon White Sr. (D-Ward 8), has unanimously voted to recommend his expulsion from the council. This decision follows an independent investigation which found 'substantial evidence' that White violated the D.C. Council's Code of Conduct. White faces a federal bribery charge for allegedly accepting over $150,000 to influence contract extensions. Despite his re-election in November, the committee's report detailed evidence of White's unethical conduct, including accepting cash from business owners in exchange for influencing government officials. The council will now proceed with a hearing on or about January 28 to consider the expulsion recommendation.
