Tom Brady Approved as Raiders Minority Owner in Unanimous Vote, Ending Playing Career
Oct 15, 2024, 08:21 PM
Tom Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback, has been unanimously approved by NFL team owners to acquire a minority ownership stake in the Las Vegas Raiders. The 32-0 vote took place during the NFL’s fall meetings on October 15, 2024. Brady's investment represents approximately 5% of the franchise, and along with his business partner, Knighthead Capital Management co-founder Tom Wagner, they have acquired a total of about 10% of the team. Former NFL defensive lineman and Hall of Famer Richard Seymour also acquired a minority stake of approximately 0.5%. Raiders owner Mark Davis sold about 10.5% of the team in total. Brady's involvement with the Raiders definitively ends any possibility of his return to playing in the NFL. There is anticipation that Brady will have a prominent voice in shaping the franchise's football future, potentially providing input on player acquisitions and strategy. Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed support for Brady's investment, stating, "I think it’s great that Tom Brady wants to invest in the NFL." Davis humorously noted that during their discussions, Brady "admitted it was a fumble," referencing the infamous "Tuck Rule" game in 2002 when Brady's New England Patriots defeated the Raiders. Brady also holds a minority stake in the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces, making this his second investment in a Las Vegas professional sports franchise.
