ECI Introduces Mock Poll Protocol for EVM Verification in Lok Sabha Elections, Allows 1,400 Votes
Jul 16, 2024, 08:06 AM
The Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to introduce a new protocol for the verification of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used in the recent Lok Sabha elections. The protocol, mandated by the Supreme Court, includes a mock poll where candidates can cast up to 1,400 votes on selected machines. Additionally, the ECI has released a technical Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for EVM burnt memory checking and verification. This SOP expands the choices available to aggrieved candidates, allowing them to select EVMs from any polling station within an assembly constituency and to mix and match EVM units (Ballot Unit, Control Unit, and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) from different polling stations. The technical SOP is expected to be released this week.
