Apple's iMessage and FaceTime Services Experience Widespread Outage, Affecting Thousands, Now Resolved
May 16, 2024, 10:41 PM
Apple's iMessage service experienced a widespread outage on Thursday afternoon, affecting thousands of users across the United States. Reports indicated that messages were taking longer to send or were failing entirely. Despite the growing number of complaints, Apple's System Status webpage initially did not report any issues. Down Detector confirmed the widespread outage, and eventually, Apple's System Status page was updated to acknowledge the problem. The issue, which lasted for a little under an hour, has since been resolved, with Apple confirming that users were unable to use the service during the outage. The outage also affected FaceTime, and users experienced intermittent issues before the problem was marked as a resolved issue.
