India and China have made significant progress in resolving the four-year standoff along the border in eastern Ladakh. Talks between the two nations have led to some consensus on the disengagement process, with Chinese military officials confirming the development. Despite these advancements, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi emphasized that the situation remains stable but not normal, indicating that more work is needed to fully normalize the border issue. India aims to restore the situation to its pre-April 2020 status, prior to the military standoff that began in May 2020. Positive signals from diplomatic discussions are expected to translate into concrete actions on the ground. Manoj Joshi highlighted that while the Chinese side suggests near-normal conditions, the Indian stance indicates more work is needed.
