Biden Signs RFK Stadium Bill Into Law, Paving Way for Potential Commanders Stadium in D.C.
Jan 6, 2025, 09:30 PM
President Joe Biden has signed the D.C. Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium Campus Revitalization Act into law, transferring administrative control of the RFK Stadium site to the District of Columbia on a 99-year lease. This legislation, which passed the Senate in a late-night vote in December, allows the city to redevelop the 170-acre site within 180 days for various purposes, including the potential construction of a new stadium. The move opens up the possibility for the Washington Commanders to return to D.C. from their current location in Maryland. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser expressed optimism about the future of the site, stating that it could be used for housing, economic opportunity, green space, recreation, sports, and more. The bill received bipartisan support and was seen as a step toward revitalizing the long-deteriorating site. Commanders owner Josh Harris praised the bill, noting it creates an even playing field for considering future locations for the team.
