Sep 16, 2024, 02:48 PM
The U.S. Treasury Department has issued new sanctions targeting individuals and entities involved in human rights abuses and anti-democratic actions. The sanctions include measures against Zviad Kharazishvili, head of the Special Task Department of Georgia’s Internal Affairs Ministry, his deputy Mileri Lagazauri, and leaders of the pro-Russian Alt-Info group, for their roles in the brutal crackdown on anti-foreign agent protests in Georgia. Additionally, the U.S. has sanctioned individuals connected to the spyware manufacturer Intellexa, including Felix Bitzios. The sanctions, under the Global Magnitsky Act, are part of broader efforts to hold accountable those undermining democracy and human rights. The U.S. has also imposed visa restrictions on individuals contributing to the undermining of democracy.
