University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Enters Federal Agreement Over Civil Rights Violations
Sep 4, 2024, 02:10 PM
The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has entered into a federal resolution agreement after failing to properly address reports of anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim discrimination on campus. Following an investigation by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights, the university has agreed to comply with federal civil rights laws. As part of the agreement, new leadership at the university has initiated listening sessions, released a report on campus antisemitism, and circulated new protest guidelines to limit disruption. The new guidelines are also part of an agreement with Hillel International, Illini Hillel, and the Jewish United Fund. The complaint regarding antisemitism on campus was filed in 2020.
