Israeli Strikes on Nuseirat Camp Kill 33, Leave 84 Missing Amid Ceasefire Hopes
Dec 13, 2024, 06:02 AM
In a devastating escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip, Israeli forces conducted a series of air strikes on the Nuseirat refugee camp, resulting in the deaths of at least 33 Palestinians and leaving 84 others missing. The attacks, which occurred overnight, targeted residential buildings and a post office, with many of the victims being women and children. The Gaza Health Ministry reported that the strikes were part of a broader offensive that has claimed the lives of nearly 30 Palestinians and injured 99 others in the past 24 hours. The international community has responded with calls for an immediate ceasefire, amidst ongoing efforts to negotiate peace between Israel and Hamas. The strikes come at a time when the US administration had raised hopes for a ceasefire deal, highlighting the urgency of the situation. The Nuseirat camp, established in 1948, has been a refuge for displaced Palestinians since the creation of the state of Israel, known in Palestinian culture as Nakhba, the 'day of catastrophe'. The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges related to the conflict. Airwars, a British organization, has labeled the current conflict as the most intense and destructive for Palestinian civilians.
