Greenland's PM Múte Egede: Island Not for Sale Amid Trump's Interest in Strategic Territory
Dec 23, 2024, 03:11 PM
Greenland's Prime Minister Múte Egede has firmly stated that the island nation is "not for sale and will never be for sale," responding to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's renewed interest in acquiring the strategic territory rich in mineral and oil reserves. Trump described American ownership of Greenland as "an absolute necessity" and has repeatedly mentioned ownership and control over the island. Some reports indicate that Trump has even threatened to occupy Greenland. Egede emphasized Greenland's sovereignty and the importance of its long struggle for freedom, saying, "Greenland is ours. We are not for sale and we will never be for sale." Greenland, an autonomous territory under Danish governance for over 600 years, gained greater autonomy in 2009.
