Oil Prices Surge to $76.83 After Hamas Leader's Assassination in Iran
Jul 31, 2024, 07:26 AM
Global oil prices have surged following the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran. U.S. crude futures rose nearly $1 to an intraday high of $75.71 per barrel, while Brent crude increased by 1.27% in early Asian trading on Wednesday. Brent crude futures also topped $80 per barrel. The news has prompted concerns about potential responses from Iran, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Turkey. Investors are worried, leading to a more than 1.5% rise in oil prices. Stock markets in Tehran have also reacted to the assassination. Additionally, Fuad Shukr, Hezbollah's senior military advisor to Nasrallah, was also killed. Oil prices jumped $2 to $76.83 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
