Johns Hopkins Finds Oldest Alphabet on Clay Cylinders in Syrian Tomb

Researchers from Johns Hopkins University have unearthed what is believed to be the world's oldest known alphabet, dating back to 2400 BCE, in an ancient Syrian city. The discovery, made on clay cylinders, challenges previous understanding of the origins of alphabetic writing, predating known alphabetic texts by 500 years. This significant 4,400-year-old find was presented at the American Society of Overseas Research's Annual Meeting.
