With just five days to go until the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, organizers have declared their readiness and have promised a clean Seine River. Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and Paris 2024 President Tony Estanguet showcased the success of the $1.5 billion river cleanup effort by swimming in the Seine last week. French authorities are testing the water daily and have contingency plans in place if needed. For a century, it has been illegal to swim in the bacteria-infested River Seine, but now, after a frantic cleanup job, dozens of Olympic athletes are about to dive right in.
