Denis Law, Manchester United Legend and Only Scottish Ballon d'Or Winner, Dies at 84
Jan 17, 2025, 07:44 PM
Manchester United and Scotland football legend Denis Law has died aged 84 after battling Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Known as 'The King' and 'The King of the Stretford End', Law was the only Scottish player to win the Ballon d'Or, claiming the award in 1964. He was part of Manchester United's 'Holy Trinity' alongside George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton, and was the last surviving member. Law scored 237 goals in 404 appearances for Manchester United, making him the club's third-highest scorer behind Charlton and Wayne Rooney. He also played for Manchester City and was capped 55 times for Scotland. Manchester United expressed their condolences, stating, "The ultimate goal-scorer, his flair, spirit, and love for the game made him the hero of a generation." The club will pay tribute to Law before their Premier League game against Brighton on Sunday.
