Sacramento Kings Acquire DeMar DeRozan; Spurs Get Harrison Barnes
Jul 7, 2024, 02:51 AM
The Sacramento Kings have acquired six-time All-Star DeMar DeRozan in a sign-and-trade deal with the Chicago Bulls, marking a significant move in the NBA free agency period. The trade, which also involves the San Antonio Spurs, sees Harrison Barnes heading to the Spurs. DeRozan, who spent three years with the Bulls, joins the Kings alongside De’Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis, and Malik Monk. The Kings hope DeRozan will bolster their offensive capabilities in the Western Conference. DeRozan was welcomed enthusiastically by Kings fans at the Golden 1 Center, where he was introduced with Kendrick Lamar's 'Not Like Us' playing in the background. The Spurs, in turn, gain a veteran forward in Barnes, who brings championship experience to a team featuring Chris Paul and Victor Wembanyama. The Bulls receive draft capital from the trade, which they may use in future transactions involving Zach LaVine. Monte McNair, the Kings' general manager, was instrumental in orchestrating the trade. The Spurs also secured a first-round pick in the deal.
