Sudan's Army Launches Major Offensive with Air Strikes Against RSF in Khartoum
Sep 26, 2024, 10:13 AM
Sudan's army has launched a major offensive against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the capital, Khartoum. This is the largest operation in nearly four months and involves heavy artillery and air strikes. The army has made significant advances, capturing key positions including the eastern side of the Nile bridge connecting Omdurman to Khartoum, and Mc Nimir bridge connecting Bahri and Khartoum. Intense battles are ongoing in central, northern, and southern Khartoum, particularly around Al-Mogran, the army's general headquarters, and the Signal Corps. The RSF has withdrawn some forces from Omdurman to reinforce positions in Khartoum, potentially shifting the balance of power. The army has also advanced into Alsouq Alarabi, a central area of Khartoum. Explosions and heavy shelling have been reported across the city as the army seeks to regain control in the 17-month war.
