South Korea's CIO Warns PSS Over Execution of Arrest Warrant for President Yoon Amid Rebellion Allegations
Jan 1, 2025, 12:21 AM
The head of South Korea's Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), Oh Dong-woon, has issued a stern warning to the Presidential Security Service (PSS) regarding the execution of an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk-yeol. The arrest warrant, issued on December 31 in connection with allegations of rebellion related to the December 3 emergency martial law declaration, is set to expire on January 6. Oh stated that any obstruction by the PSS, such as locking doors or setting up barricades, would be considered interference with official duties. He emphasized that the CIO would proceed with the execution of the warrant within the legal timeframe, despite potential opposition. Oh also mentioned that the CIO is coordinating with the police to ensure the arrest can be carried out without significant disturbance. President Yoon's legal team has contested the validity of the warrant, but Oh dismissed their claims, asserting that the CIO received lawful court authorization.
