2,000-Year-Old Tomb with 12 Skeletons and 'Holy Grail' Unearthed Beneath Petra's Treasury
Oct 15, 2024, 02:36 PM
Archaeologists have discovered a hidden tomb beneath the Treasury monument, also known as Al-Khazneh, in Petra, Jordan, uncovering the remains of at least 12 human skeletons and a collection of grave offerings, including a ceramic vessel likened to the 'Holy Grail' depicted in 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade'. The tomb, estimated to be around 2,000 years old, provides new insights into the ancient civilization that built the UNESCO World Heritage site, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Treasury is a 2,000-year-old elaborate mausoleum carved into sandstone cliffs. The excavation, involving archaeologist and Discovery Channel host Josh Gates, reveals well-preserved remains and artifacts that could help solve long-standing mysteries about Petra's history.
