OAS Rejects Venezuelan Election Results, Maduro Declared Winner, Gonzalez Leads in Tallies
Jul 30, 2024, 01:05 PM
The Organization of American States (OAS) has announced it cannot recognize the results of Venezuela's recent election, where President Nicolas Maduro was declared the winner. The OAS electoral observation department cited a coordinated strategy to undermine the election's integrity and reported that 73% of vote tallies available to the opposition showed their candidate, Edmundo Gonzalez, had more than twice the votes of Maduro. An extraordinary meeting has been called by the OAS to discuss the contested results, following concerns raised by the Venezuelan opposition. Protests have erupted in Venezuela in response to the disputed election results from Sunday's vote.
