Rare 12-Foot 'Doomsday Fish' Found Off La Jolla Shores, California
Aug 16, 2024, 03:45 AM
A rare oarfish, often referred to as a 'Doomsday Fish', was discovered off the coast of Southern California, near La Jolla Shores. This deep-sea fish, which is seldom seen, has been associated with ominous events in various cultures. The recent sighting marks only the 20th time an oarfish has been found along California's coastline since 1901, according to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The 12-foot-long fish was found floating dead off the San Diego coast and has been brought ashore for scientific study. Kayakers and snorkelers initially spotted the fish. Marine experts are keen to understand the reasons behind its appearance, as such occurrences are extremely rare.
