Biden Administration Allocates $521 Million for 9,200 EV Charging Ports, Boosts California Infrastructure
Aug 27, 2024, 03:07 PM
The Biden-Harris administration, through the U.S. Department of Energy, has announced a significant investment in the national electric vehicle (EV) charging network. A total of $521 million in grants has been allocated to develop and expand EV charging infrastructure across the United States. This funding will facilitate the deployment of over 9,200 EV charging ports in 29 states, two Federally Recognized Tribes, and the District of Columbia, with an approximate cost of $56,630 per charging port. California, in particular, will receive a substantial portion of this funding to enhance its clean transportation infrastructure, including the installation of charging and hydrogen fueling stations for zero-emission vehicles along key freight corridors. The initiative is part of a broader effort to double the number of EV charging stations since 2021 and is supported by the Federal Highway Administration.
