AHL Unanimously Approves Cut-Resistant Neck Protection for 2024-25 Season
Aug 23, 2024, 05:14 PM
The American Hockey League (AHL) has announced that its Board of Governors has unanimously approved the mandatory use of cut-resistant neck protection for all players and on-ice officials. This new safety measure will be implemented starting with the 2024-25 season. The decision, announced by AHL Commissioner Scott Howson, applies to all skaters, referees, and linespersons, regardless of their age or experience. A few players on the Milwaukee Admirals, including Spencer Statsney, wore them most of last year. This move aligns with a growing trend in sports leagues prioritizing player safety, and it is anticipated that the National Hockey League (NHL) may follow suit.
