DOJ Seeks to Force Alphabet's Google to Sell Chrome in Historic Search Monopoly Crackdown
Nov 21, 2024, 04:07 AM
The U.S. Department of Justice is seeking to force Alphabet Inc.'s Google to sell its Chrome browser as part of an effort to address the company's alleged illegal monopolization of the search market. Bloomberg News first reported that DOJ antitrust officials plan to ask federal judge Amit Mehta to order the sale of Chrome, marking a historic crackdown on one of the world's largest technology companies. The proposal follows an earlier ruling where Judge Mehta found that Google had violated antitrust laws by maintaining a monopoly in online search. If approved, the sale of Chrome could fundamentally alter Google's business operations.
