DHS Acquires NEO Robot to Disable IoT Devices in Raids
Jul 22, 2024, 02:31 PM
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has acquired a dog-like robot equipped with an onboard computer and antenna array designed to perform Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks on Internet of Things (IoT) devices within homes. This technology aims to disable potentially harmful IoT devices, referred to as 'booby traps,' during law enforcement raids. The robot, known as NEO, was presented at a border security conference, where DHS officials highlighted its capability to overload home networks and ensure officer safety during operations. The information was disclosed in a transcript obtained by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) and shared with 404MEDIA.
