Former Giants QB Daniel Jones Signs $375,000 Deal with Vikings' Practice Squad
Nov 27, 2024, 03:28 PM
Daniel Jones, the former quarterback for the New York Giants, has cleared waivers and become a free agent after being released at his own request. Jones, who previously signed an $82 million contract with the Giants, is aiming to join a playoff contender and has eliminated the Las Vegas Raiders from consideration despite their interest. He has received substantial interest from multiple teams, including the Baltimore Ravens, Minnesota Vikings, San Francisco 49ers, and Miami Dolphins. Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell expressed admiration for Jones, stating, "I’ve been a big fan of Daniel’s for a long time and I hope wherever his next step takes him, it’s a good opportunity for him." On November 27, reports emerged that Jones plans to sign with the Vikings' practice squad on a one-year deal worth $375,000 for the remainder of the season. The Vikings have only one quarterback under contract for 2025 and see Jones' signing as an opportunity for him to learn under O'Connell and potentially serve as a backup. Jones' decision to join the Vikings is influenced by his previous success against them; he led the Giants to a 31-24 win over Minnesota in a January 2023 wild card game, where he completed 24 of 35 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed 17 times for 78 yards. The Giants remain responsible for the $11.83 million remaining on his contract.
