LCBO Strike Ends with Tentative Agreement Including Wage Hikes, Full-Time Positions, and Lost Wages
Jul 19, 2024, 09:31 PM
The recent LCBO strike has concluded with a tentative agreement between the LCBO and OPSEU. The agreement includes wage hikes, a shift from part-time to full-time positions, and improvements in severance and benefits for workers. Despite these gains, the strike, driven by OPSEU leader JP Hornick's personal ambition, has been criticized for not being necessary to achieve the deal. The Ontario government will continue to sell ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages in grocery and convenience stores, a point of contention during the strike. The fate of the tentative deal remains uncertain as accusations fly, with some viewing the strike as a losing battle against Premier Doug Ford. The strike also resulted in lost wages for workers. The strike was partly about not selling White Claws and Caesars-in-a-can in supermarkets.
