Pakistan Supreme Court Awards Over 20 Reserved Seats to Imran Khan's PTI
Jul 12, 2024, 08:11 AM
Pakistan's Supreme Court has ruled in favor of former Prime Minister Imran Khan's PTI party, awarding it over 20 reserved seats in the national legislature. This decision overturns a previous verdict by the Peshawar High Court and grants PTI reserved seats for women and minorities. The ruling also includes seats for the PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC). With this ruling, PTI becomes the single largest party in Pakistan's parliament, making the incumbent government a minority. The verdict, announced on Friday, comes months after national elections that were marred by allegations of pre-poll rigging.
