Putin Arrives in Mongolia on September 3 for First Visit Amid ICC Arrest Warrant
Sep 2, 2024, 02:18 PM
Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Mongolia on September 3 for an official visit, marking his first trip to a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC) since the court issued an arrest warrant for him in March 2023 over alleged war crimes in Ukraine. Despite the ICC's calls for Mongolia, a signatory to the Rome Statute, to arrest Putin, the Mongolian government has assured his safety during the visit. The visit, at the invitation of Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, coincides with the commemoration of the 85th anniversary of the Soviet-Mongolian victory over Japan.
