House Fails to Hold AG Garland in Contempt Over Biden Tapes, $10,000 Daily Fine
Jul 11, 2024, 06:20 AM
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) introduced a resolution to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in inherent contempt of Congress for failing to provide audiotapes of President Biden's interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur. The resolution proposed a daily fine of $10,000 until the tapes were handed over. Luna cited a 'two-tiered justice system' as a reason for the resolution. Despite significant support from House Republicans and former President Donald Trump, the measure failed in a House vote, with a final tally of 204-210. Four Republicans voted against the resolution, and several were absent, contributing to its defeat. Luna has announced plans to refile the resolution when more GOP members are present.
