Conseil d'État Annuls Decree for Paris Flying Taxi Base on Seine, Citing Olympics Showcase
Dec 18, 2024, 05:22 PM
The Conseil d'État has annulled a ministerial decree that authorized the creation of a takeoff and landing base for 'flying taxis' on the Seine in Paris. This decision marks another setback for the controversial project, which was intended to showcase innovative and eco-friendly transportation during the Paris Olympics. The project, supported by the government and the Paris airports operator Groupe ADP in collaboration with the German aeronautics company Volocopter, faced opposition from the City of Paris and various associations fighting against air noise pollution. The Conseil d'État ruled that the government should have consulted the Authority for the Control of Air Nuisances (Acnusa) before proceeding, as required by law. The court also ordered the state to pay a total of 6,000 euros in legal fees to the Union Française Contre les Nuisances des Aéronefs (UFCNA) and the City of Paris.
