Australia Approves Largest 10-Gigawatt Solar Project in NT
Aug 21, 2024, 01:00 AM
Australia has approved the first stage of a massive renewable energy project, which is being hailed as the largest solar precinct in the world. The project, located in the Northern Territory, involves constructing a 10-gigawatt solar farm spanning 12,400 hectares. It aims to export solar electricity from Australia to Singapore via an 800-kilometre overhead transmission line to Darwin and then through a subsea cable. The development has received environmental approval from Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek, marking a significant step forward in Australia's renewable energy efforts. The project is backed by tech billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes and is expected to generate enough power for three million homes. This approval comes shortly after the rejection of a gold mine project in New South Wales.
