Vietnam Hit by Soulik as UN and Russia Provide Aid After Typhoon Yagi's $1.6bn Damage
Sep 21, 2024, 07:44 AM
A new tropical storm, Soulik, hit Vietnam on Thursday, following the devastating impact of Typhoon Yagi, which left over 329 people dead or missing. In response to the widespread damage caused by Yagi, the United Nations has allocated two million US dollars to support the Vietnamese government's humanitarian efforts. Additionally, Russia has sent 35 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Vietnam, including food supplies, first aid kits, mobile generators, and power stations. The aid, delivered on President Vladimir Putin's orders, aims to alleviate the damage caused by the typhoon. Vietnam has estimated the damage from Yagi at $1.6 billion, with 226 people confirmed dead and over 100 still missing. The Vietnamese military has been mobilized and is on standby for rescue and supply operations.
