Supreme Court Keeps Biden-Harris Student Debt Relief Plan on Hold Amid Eighth Circuit Review
Aug 28, 2024, 06:18 PM
The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to revive President Joe Biden's latest student debt relief plan, leaving the multibillion-dollar initiative on hold. This decision supports Republican-led states that have sued to block the plan, which aims to reduce student-loan bills for millions of borrowers. The plan, known as the SAVE student loan repayment program, was temporarily blocked nationwide by the Eighth Circuit earlier this month. The Supreme Court's decision comes without any noted dissents and maintains the pause imposed by the federal appeals court. The Eighth Circuit is expected to soon issue a ruling on the administration's authority to create the plan. Vice President Kamala Harris is also associated with this initiative.
