ABN Amro Appoints Former BNP Paribas Executive Marguerite Bérard as First Female CEO Effective April 23, 2025
Jan 10, 2025, 05:02 PM
ABN Amro Bank NV, with origins dating back more than 300 years, has announced the appointment of Marguerite Bérard as its new CEO, effective from April 23, 2025. Bérard, aged 47, will become the first woman to lead one of the three major banks in the Netherlands. She previously led the retail banking division at BNP Paribas and has extensive experience in the financial sector, having also served on the executive board of Groupe BPCE. Bérard is an alumna of the Ecole Nationale d'Administration and holds a Master's degree from Princeton University in Economics and Political Science. Her appointment follows the unexpected departure of Robert Swaak in August of the previous year. Bérard's nomination is subject to regulatory approval and will be presented to shareholders at the upcoming annual general meeting. She will also manage the Dutch state's gradual exit from the bank, which currently holds a 40% stake.
