Sep 3, 2024, 12:00 PM
Clearview AI, a controversial U.S. facial recognition company, has been fined €30.5 million ($33.7 million) by the Dutch Data Protection Authority for creating an 'illegal database' containing billions of facial images taken from social media and the internet. The fine, imposed on Tuesday, is the largest GDPR penalty imposed on the company to date. The Dutch regulator is also considering holding Clearview AI executives personally liable for the violations. The database was deemed a massive rights breach by the authorities.
