VisitMitsubishi UFJ Bank Fires Employee for Alleged Theft of ¥2 Billion from 60 Customers' Safe Deposit Boxes

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. has dismissed an employee who allegedly stole as much as ¥2 billion ($13 million) from the safe deposit boxes of approximately 60 customers. The thefts occurred over a period of about four and a half years, from April 2020 to October 2024, at two branches in Tokyo: Nerima and Tamagawa. The stolen items included cash and precious metals, with the total value amounting to several billion yen. The bank announced the dismissal of the branch manager involved on November 14.
