Dengue Fever Cases Surge Globally with Over 10 Million in 2024

The global dengue fever situation has reached alarming levels, with 2024 being the worst year on record. Over 10 million cases have already been reported globally, marking a significant increase from the 4.5 million cases reported in the Americas in 2023. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its Level 1 Travel Health Advisory on July 23, 2024, highlighting dengue outbreaks in 14 countries in the Americas. In Cambodia, 13 new human infections have been reported since late 2023, with additional cases in China and Vietnam. The Democratic Republic of Congo has recorded 11,166 suspected cases, including 450 deaths, resulting in a fatality rate of four percent, according to government spokesperson Patrick Muyaya. In Karnataka, Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao instructed officials to monitor dengue-infected people for 14 days and urged preventive measures.
