Yoon Suk Yeol's Legal Team Challenges 'Illegal' Arrest Warrant Execution at Constitutional and Seoul Courts
Jan 3, 2025, 12:11 AM
The legal team representing South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has announced plans to take legal action against what they describe as the 'illegal' and 'invalid' execution of an arrest warrant. The team, led by attorney Yoon Gap Geun, argues that the warrant's execution is unlawful because it was issued by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), which they claim lacks the authority to investigate charges of insurrection against the president. The legal challenge is currently underway at the Constitutional Court and the Seoul Western District Court, where objections have been filed against the warrant's execution. The president's legal team contends that the warrant violates the Criminal Procedure Act and the Constitution, particularly in relation to the exclusion of provisions that protect military and official secret locations from search without consent.
