Former UK PM Liz Truss Loses Seat in South West Norfolk to Labour by 630 Votes
Jul 5, 2024, 05:51 AM
Former UK Prime Minister Liz Truss has lost her parliamentary seat in South West Norfolk to Labour candidate Terry Jermy. Truss, who had been the MP for the constituency since 2010, was defeated by a margin of 630 votes, with Labour receiving 11,847 votes and the Conservatives 11,217 votes. Reform received 9,958 votes, Independent candidate James Bagge received 6,282 votes, the Liberal Democrats received 5.9%, and the Green Party received 4.1%. This marks the first time in over a century that a former prime minister has lost their seat, with the last occurrence being Arthur Balfour in 1906. Truss had previously held a significant majority of 26,000 votes. The loss is seen as a major setback for the Conservative Party, which has experienced a significant electoral defeat in this general election.
