Kalshi Wins Lawsuit Against CFTC on Friday, Can List Election Markets for First Time in 100 Years
Sep 6, 2024, 11:33 PM
Kalshi, a U.S.-regulated prediction market platform, has won its federal lawsuit against the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on Friday, allowing it to offer contracts on political events such as which party will control each house of Congress after the November election. The court ruling marks a significant victory for the derivatives exchange startup Kalshi, which can now list election markets to U.S. residents. This decision could pave the way for legal betting on U.S. elections for the first time in 100 years. Susquehanna, among other professional MMs, are expected to drive notable volume. Kalshi could list contracts as soon as next week. However, the CFTC has indicated that it may appeal the ruling and has asked the judge to temporarily bar Kalshi from listing election contracts.
