Red Sox Acquire Garrett Crochet from White Sox for Top Prospects Kyle Teel and Braden Montgomery
Dec 11, 2024, 07:27 PM
The Boston Red Sox have acquired All-Star left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for four top prospects, the teams announced on Wednesday. The White Sox will receive catcher Kyle Teel, outfielder Braden Montgomery, infielder Chase Meidroth, and right-handed pitcher Wikelman Gonzalez. All four are among the Red Sox's top 15 prospects, with Teel ranked as Boston's No. 4 prospect and the No. 25 overall prospect in MLB, and Montgomery ranked as Boston's No. 6 prospect and MLB's No. 54 overall prospect. Crochet, 25, who was an All-Star in 2024 and named the 2024 AL Comeback Player of the Year, has impressive career statistics, including a 3.29 ERA over 219 innings pitched, with 294 strikeouts and 73 walks, and a 1.16 WHIP. The left-handed starter is under team control for two more years and is expected to bolster the Red Sox starting rotation. Crochet's acquisition addresses Boston's need for an ace-level starter with significant upside if he can remain healthy for a full season. The trade represents a significant move for the Red Sox, who parted with a substantial prospect package to secure Crochet. For the White Sox, the deal brings in a "haul" of promising young talent to aid in their rebuilding efforts under general manager Chris Getz.
