U.S. Recognizes Venezuela's Edmundo González as Election Winner, Not President

On Thursday, the Biden administration officially recognized Venezuela’s opposition candidate Edmundo González as the winner of the presidential election. However, the U.S. clarified that it does not yet recognize him as the president of Venezuela. Senator Rick Scott has urged the Biden administration to take further actions, including reinstating sanctions and supporting the passage of the BOLIVAR Act. The U.S. also calls for a democratic transition through negotiations between chavismo and the opposition.
