Biden Administration Allocates Nearly $2 Billion to Convert 11 Auto Plants to EV Factories
Jul 11, 2024, 03:35 PM
The Biden administration has announced a nearly $2 billion initiative to convert 11 shuttered or at-risk auto manufacturing and assembly facilities into electric vehicle (EV) factories. This program aims to bolster clean vehicle manufacturing and support communities that have historically driven the American economy. The grants will be distributed across eight states, including key swing states such as Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. Stellantis' Belvidere Assembly Plant in Illinois is set to receive $334 million as part of this initiative. The funding will cover a broad range of the automotive supply chain, including parts for electric motorcycles, school buses, hybrid powertrains, heavy-duty commercial truck batteries, and electric SUVs. The initiative is part of the administration's broader effort to ensure the future of the auto industry is 'Made in America' and to create and retain thousands of union jobs.
