Axel Springer and KKR are nearing a deal to break up the media giant Axel Springer, valuing the company at $13.5 billion (€13.5B), according to reports from the Financial Times. German billionaire Mathias Döpfner and KKR are key figures in the negotiations. The deal would see KKR taking control of Axel Springer's €10 billion-plus classifieds business. The fundamental agreement was reportedly reached in the summer.
