Australian Influencer Charged with Poisoning Baby, Raising A$60,000 in Donations
Jan 16, 2025, 01:41 PM
A 34-year-old Australian social media influencer from Queensland has been charged with multiple offenses, including torture, administering poison with intent to harm, fraud, making child exploitation material, and preparation to commit crimes with dangerous things, after allegedly poisoning her one-year-old baby girl. Authorities claim the woman gave the child unauthorized prescription and pharmacy medications between August and October 2024, causing the baby immense distress and pain. The influencer reportedly filmed and posted videos of the child’s suffering online to solicit monetary donations and gain followers. She allegedly raised over A$60,000 (approximately US$37,000) through GoFundMe campaigns by fabricating a story about the baby’s terminal illness. The alleged poisoning came to light when hospital staff alerted police after the child was admitted for a serious medical condition. Police stated that the woman went to great lengths to conceal her actions, including using old medications prescribed to others in the household. Tests conducted on January 7 confirmed the presence of unauthorized medications in the child’s system. The child has since been placed in a safe environment and is reportedly in good health. The woman is scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on January 17, 2025.
