Amazon Workers Begin Largest US Strike at Seven Facilities Before Christmas
Dec 19, 2024, 05:20 PM
Thousands of Amazon workers organized under the International Brotherhood of Teamsters have launched the largest strike against Amazon in U.S. history, across seven facilities in the United States, beginning Thursday morning, just days before Christmas during the peak of the holiday shopping season. The strike affects warehouses and delivery stations in California, including San Francisco, Queens in New York, Skokie in Illinois, and Atlanta in Georgia. Nearly 10,000 workers, including delivery drivers who deliver packages, are demanding better pay, improved working conditions, and union recognition, aiming to pressure the e-commerce giant into contract negotiations. Amazon has stated that it does not expect the strike to impact its operations or delay holiday deliveries.
