Texas Man Convicted of Intoxication Manslaughter in Deadly Brownsville Crash, Sentenced to 60 Years
Jun 28, 2024, 08:06 PM
A Texas man, George Alvarez, was convicted of eight counts of intoxication manslaughter for driving an SUV into a crowded bus stop outside a migrant shelter in Brownsville, killing eight people and injuring nearly a dozen others. The incident, which occurred in 2023, is considered the worst intoxication crash in Brownsville’s history. Alvarez was sentenced to 60 years in prison, although some reports mentioned a 75-year sentence. The state rested its case earlier this week, and a Texas jury delivered the guilty verdict on Friday. The crash struck 18 people in total. Sentencing followed shortly after the verdict.
