Ken Paxton, 70 Republicans Challenge Dallas Over State Fair Gun Ban
Aug 14, 2024, 12:27 PM
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has threatened legal action against the city of Dallas if the State Fair of Texas does not rescind its recent policy banning firearms. The policy was introduced after a shooting at the fair last year injured three people. More than 70 Texas House Republicans, alongside gun rights advocates including the NRA, have urged the State Fair to reverse the ban, arguing it infringes on Second Amendment rights. Paxton contends that the gun ban is unlawful because Fair Park, where the fair is held, is government-owned property. A letter signed by 70 GOP lawmakers states, "Gun-free zones don’t make us safer—they make us targets."
