VisitBYD Sells 4.27 Million NEVs in 2024, Including 1.76 Million BEVs, Narrowing Gap With Tesla
Jan 1, 2025, 10:30 AM
BYD Co. reported a significant surge in its electric vehicle (EV) sales for 2024, with a total of 4.27 million new energy vehicles (NEVs) sold, marking a 41.26% increase year-over-year. The company achieved a record-breaking December, selling 514,809 NEVs, the third consecutive month surpassing the 500,000 mark. This performance has narrowed the gap with Tesla Inc., as BYD sold 1.76 million battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in 2024, challenging Tesla's position as the world's leading EV maker. Tesla sold approximately 1.29 million EVs in the first three quarters of 2024, needing at least 467,000 sales in the fourth quarter to surpass BYD's annual total. BYD's sales included 207,734 BEVs and 301,706 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) in December, with overseas sales reaching 417,200 units for the year, a 71.9% increase from the previous year. BYD's fourth-quarter sales reached 1.54 million EVs, including 595,413 BEVs, while Tesla aimed for at least 467,000 BEV sales in the same period to maintain its lead.
