Tesla Delivers 1.79 Million Vehicles to Surpass Audi's 1.67 Million in Global Sales for 2024

Tesla Inc. surpassed Audi, a Volkswagen AG brand, in global vehicle sales for the first time in 2024, despite delivering fewer vehicles than anticipated. Tesla delivered 1.79 million vehicles, while Audi's sales dropped by 12% to 1.67 million units. Audi's decline was attributed to lower demand in key markets such as Germany, China, and North America, with a specific 8% decrease in sales of its fully electric models to around 164,000 units. The German automaker faced intensified competition in Europe and China, as well as reduced demand for electric vehicles following subsidy cuts in several European countries. Tesla's achievement marks a significant moment, as it managed to overtake a 115-year-old legacy brand despite facing its own challenges, including the first annual delivery decline in over a decade.
